Knowing Jordan Brand, it’s nothing new that they would be releasing another set of kicks to honor the upcoming Rio Olympics this summer. But unlike their previous release, JB is breaking out of its mold by releasing the new Air Jordan 7 “Tinker Alternate”.
Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate
Color:White/Metallic Gold Coin-Deep Royal Blue-Fire Red-Lite Iron Ore
Release Date:August 16, 2016
So what makes the Tinker Alternate different from previous Jordan releases? One, it’s a sneaker made to coincide with the approaching summer Olympics. Two, it has some unique features. This is to be expected given that Tinker Hatfield has a hand with the designing process.
On its preview last month on Sneaker News, the Tinker Alternate, also dubbed as the “Olympic Alternate”, features updated heel brandings, metallic goid accents, and a combination of Fire Red, Royal Blue, and White colorways. Compared to the Air Jordan 5 Olympic, the AJ7 looks more like the Olympic shoe it was named for. Both shoes have Jordan release dates 2016 and are set to drop off days away from each other on August.
As it is, the Tinker Alternate AJ7 looks to be a promising shoe for sneakerheads. Tinker Hatfield definitely went all out to give Michael Jordan’s NBA Dream Team in 1992 the kind of shoes that it deserves. So instead of the usual 23 that is MJ’s number, the Alternate Olympic will be sporting the number 9’ on the heel as a nod to MJ’s Olympic number. There’s also the unique addition of the American flag which will serve as the backdrop for Michael’s Olympic number.
Of course, the shoes’ other notable features have their own stories to tell as well. Jordan Brand made use of metallic gold coin accents found throughout the shoes to represent the gold that MJ’s team bagged during that year. On the side is the famed Jumpman dressed in the same metallic gold. The word JORDAN is also scripted on the tongue in bold gold letter with the tongue an alternate color of White, Fire Red, Royal Blue, and grey.
The midsole of the Air Jordan 7 Alternate Olympic is also notable with its Fire Red and White combination. The red color is somewhat gradient-like to become a lighter shade of white with red speckles. The outsole is a combination of all the colorways with a Fire Red Jumpman near the heels. The Alternate Olympic also stands up to its name with an alternating heel tab and insole color of Royal Blue and Fire Red. The shoes’ white laces also have gold aglets making it even stylish.
Set to release this August 16th, the Air Jordan 7 Tinker will be available on retail for a price of $190.
