It was 13 years ago, in 2002, when the first Air Jordan 17+ “Copper” was released to the market. Now, Jordan Brand is giving the shoes a comeback as part of its Jordan releases in 2016.
Air Jordan 17+ Copper
Color:White/Metallic Copper Coin-Black-Sport Blue
Release Date:April 2016
While the official release date of the AJ17 Copper was confirmed this year, earlier reports from Sneaker News has hinted the return of the shoes as part of Jordan Brand’s official summer lineup for 2016. Aside from the Copper, there is also another confirmed release for the colorways of the Air Jordan 17 dubbed as the “Bulls” with the customary Chicago Bulls color schemes of Gym Red, Black, and White.
The Air Jordan 17 was inspired by the 30,000th point that Michael Jordan made as a Wizard while he was still playing with the Chicago Bulls. Given this historic inspiration for the Air Jordan 17, it’s not surprising that the pair will be sporting a rather unconventional and special case – a metal one – and is traditional at the same time given that the metal briefcases are the staple for the Air Jordan 17s.
Copper AJ17 will be sporting a metallic copper coin embellishments and a combination of black, white, and a hint of royal blue colorways. Way back during its first release, the Wilson Smith III designed Jordan pair didn’t really find success. Not anymore. Now that the Air Jordan 17s have found its way to become a well-respected shoe, the comeback release of the pair this April might have a warmer welcome from Jordan fans and sneaker heads.
All in all, the Air Jordan 17+ Copper looks sleek with a full-grain leather upper and a full grain lizard emboss design on the heel. The midfoot cover provides a supportive and customized fit on the shoes while the added foam-backed Lycra collar gives extra comfort to wearers. Another notable feature of the shoes is the lightweight phylon midsole. Added to that is the comfortable Air-Sole unit feature. The shoes is also provided with a full heel and ankle support thank to the TPU heel stabilizers and composite shank plate running on full length.
Up close, the Copper AJ17+ looks very luxurious with its copper accented lace eyelets and copper hardware found on the heel. There’s nothing regular with the Jordan 17+ Copper since it does above average with its branding. The tongue and the copper hardware on the heel also sport the word “JORDAN”. The shoe is finished off with a rubber outsole designed like a golf course with its bunkers, fairways, and greens.
