If you remember a 1993 McDonald’s commercial of Michael Jordan, however, you should have a pretty good idea as to the origin of these shoes. They are inspired by the outfit Jordan wore during the commercial and later on, the shoes were worn on the court by His Airiness himself.

The shoes are incredibly distinctive, boasting of a plethora of colors that range from violet, red, blue, yellow, and black – all strong and incredibly striking. This combination is laid out on top of a predominantly white shoe and you’ve got a pair that is pretty hard to ignore.

The colors are laid out in a predictable pattern, lining mostly the edges of the shoe and creating a dividing pattern that separates the trim from the rest of the shoes. The eyelets are also covered by the mixture of colors along with the mouth of shoes and the upper portion of the heels. The tongue is done in black – presumably so that it wouldn’t overwhelm the patterned design.

The outsole is done in violet layered with midsole red and insole black. It doesn’t cover the whole bottom part of the shoes but just the center portions. Along the heels, you’ve got the number 23 proudly displayed, telling you exactly what the shoes are for.

Other Nike logos include the Jumpman beautifully stitched on the ankle portion of the shoes. They are done in red with the white backdrop, therefore ensuring that the design stands out from any angle.

Sneaker News provides a close up of the shoes, showing an Air Jordan stitching on the center of the tongue in the classic alternate lettering method. The interior seems to be done in red from what you can see from the lips of the shoes. And the laces? They are done in black that helps to blend with the equally-black tongue.

All in all, it is tough to call the Air Jordan 7 Retro “Sweater” a classic – but they are definitely not something that will fade away with time. At best, they are the kind of shoes you’d want to wear to catch everyone’s eye without being too loud about it. Still, they are the ones you’d definitely want on hand considering how they mark an important part of Jordan’s success-filled career.

The Jordan release date of these babies is on November 14 which isn’t that far. Even more good news: there will be small sizes for the youth.
