Have you ever seen “The Spirit” statue of His Airiness, Michael Jordan? It stands 12-foot tall and was commissioned to commemorate Jordan’s first retirement after an incredible 3-time win at the NBA Championship. In that statue, Jordan was wearing a pair of Air Jordan 9 – the exact silhouette currently slotted for release this September.
Air Jordan 9 Retro “Anthracite”
Release Date:September 5, 2015
Of course, the “Anthracite” may be a remembrance of an iconic time, but it’s far from the colors you expected. The fact is that another Jordan 9 pair dubbed “The Spirit” is currently hailed a favorite in many circles, but that doesn’t mean that the Anthracite is not worth notice. In fact, with The Spirit currently hitting the charts, there’s more Anthracite to go around for everyone.
The Air Jordan 9 Anthracite looks like it’s a full-on black design at first blush, but the color is more actually dubbed “anthracite” which is essentially a shade in between grey and black. The shoes are therefore mainly covered in this shade of color with very little additions to the colorway. If you’re a fan of the classic black design, then these kicks are definitely the best choice for you.
Anyway, Sneaker News released images of this baby, showing exactly how Nike re-imagined the Air Jordan 9. They weren’t exactly imaginative with the colors and as a result, Nike created something better: a classic.
Other than the anthracite shade, these kicks bear shades of white strategically located in different parts of the shoes, just to highlight varying areas. The white can be located in the following parts: the eyelets, the heels, the line of the midsole, and the Jump Man logo strategically placed on the midsole, right where the arch of the foot rests. The tongue also follows the major color of the shoes with the “Air Jordan” words printed dead center. The white on the heels depict the number “23” – the number mainly attributed to His Airiness when he dominated the courts.
Inside the shoes, you’ve got the number “30” signifying the years of the Air Jordan brand dominating sportswear. The logo at the back on top of the number “23” is a little tough to see — thanks to the color, but it’s still discernible. What really screams “Air Jordan” in these kicks is the tiny Jump Man logo done in white along the soles.
“Anthracite” probably won’t get a huge reception in the same way as “The Spirit,” but if you love classics – this is something you should definitely add to your collection. The Jordan release date for the Air Jordan 9 “Anthracite” is this September 5 at the price of $190.
